Set up customer posting groups
Give each kind of customer its own receivable account, so invoices, payments and credit notes post to the right account when your company uses posting groups.
Before you start
- Set up the chart of accountsYou choose an existing receivable account for each group.
- Set up posting groupsCustomer posting groups are one part of posting groups. That page covers the other groups and the switch-over.
In this article
A customer posting group decides which receivable account a customer's invoices post to. For example, you might keep local customers, export customers and staff on different receivable accounts.
Customer posting groups are only used when your company takes its accounts from posting groups. Not sure which your company uses? See how invoices get their accounts.

| Credit note | The credit that reduces what the customer owes. It uses the invoice's account. |
The sales and VAT accounts come from the other posting groups, not from this one. See Set up posting groups.
