Your appraisal has three stages: your self-assessment, your line manager's review, and HR's decision. You'll get an email when HR opens the cycle. Do your part before the self-assessment deadline: after it, you can't save or submit any more.

Steps

  1. Open My Performance

In the menu on the left, select My Portal, then My Performance. (HR staff can also find it under HR › Performance › My Appraisal.)

    1. One card per appraisal assigned to you, named after the cycle.
    2. Its status: Not Started, Self-Assessment In Progress, Draft Saved, Submitted, Approved or Rejected.
    3. Your KPI, behavioural and overall scores so far, with the weights.
    4. Start Assessment opens the form. Once you have submitted, the button is View Assessment and the form is read-only.
  2. Find your way around the form

    1. Status, the cycle and the days left before the deadline.
    2. How your overall score is worked out: KPI score × KPI weight + behavioural score × behavioural weight.
    3. Download PDF or Download Word if you'd rather fill the form in offline (see the tip below).
    4. Where it is: Self Assessment, Manager Review, HR Decision.
    5. KPI Assessment and Behavioral Assessment tabs. Fill in both.
    6. One card per KPI, with its Target and Weight.
    7. Your score as you go, and the rating band it falls in.
  3. Score each KPI

On the KPI Assessment tab, fill in every KPI card.

    1. Achieved Value: what you actually achieved against the target.
    2. Self Score: your score for this KPI, from 0 up to the KPI's weight (a KPI weighted 25% is scored 0–25). Your KPI score is the total of these.
    3. Comments & Evidence: what you did and how you know.
    4. Supporting Attachments: add files as evidence.
    5. The next KPI's target and weight.
    6. The rating bands, and where your current score sits.
  4. Score each competency

Open the Behavioral Assessment tab. For each competency (for example Teamwork), enter your Self Score and examples in the comments. Add attachments if they help.

  5. Add your summary, save, then submit

    Scroll to the bottom.

    1. Overall Self-Assessment Comments: key achievements, challenges and areas for growth. Add General Attachments below.
    2. Manager's Assessment shows "Awaiting Review" until your manager submits.
    3. HR Decision shows "Pending" until HR decides.

Your work saves itself as a draft a few seconds after each change ("Saved"). You can also select Save Draft, or Delete Draft to start again.

When every KPI and competency has a score, select Submit Assessment, then Confirm Submit. You can't change it after that. You get a confirmation email, and your line manager can start the review.

  6. Follow the review and sign off

    • When your manager submits their review, you see their scores and comments under Manager's Assessment. They may invite you to a review meeting first.
    • If your manager or HR sends the appraisal back, its status is Rejected with the reason. Fix what they asked for and submit again; this works even after the deadline.
    • When HR approves it, you get an email. Open the appraisal and complete the Sign-off: say whether you agree with the outcome. If you disagree, add a comment explaining why (up to 2,000 characters).

Who reviews it

Your appraisal goes to your line manager: the Reporting To person on your employee record, or your primary supervisor. If they are on approved leave, your secondary supervisor can stand in. If the wrong person is listed, ask HR to fix it in Set up employees and supervisors. What your manager does is in Appraise your team.
