You review an appraisal after your team member submits their self-assessment. You score every KPI and competency yourself, write a short summary, confirm you held a review meeting, and submit. HR then makes the final decision.

Steps

  1. Open Team Appraisals

In the menu on the left, select Manager Workspace, then Team Appraisals. (HR staff can also find it under HR › Performance › Team Appraisals.)

    1. Your team members, reviews waiting for you, reviews you've completed, and scheduled meetings.
    2. Filter by status, and (for HR) by manager.
    3. One card per appraisal: the employee, department, status, their self score and your score. Select View to open it.
  2. Wait for the self-assessment

If the employee hasn't submitted yet, the appraisal opens on a waiting screen.

    1. "Awaiting Self-Assessment: The manager review will become available once the employee completes and submits their self-assessment." Select Back to Team Appraisals.

The employee is emailed when the cycle opens; remind them of the deadline if needed.

  3. Score each KPI and competency

Once the employee has submitted, View opens the review form. For each KPI you see the employee's achieved value, self score, comments and attachments. Next to them, enter:

    • Manager Score: from 0 up to the item's weight (the form tells you the maximum).
    • Comments: required for every KPI and every competency.

Do the same for each competency in the behavioural section. You can add your own attachments.

When you have several reviews, the next and previous arrows move through your queue without going back to the list.

  4. Write your summary

Below the scores, fill in Key Strengths, Areas for Improvement, Overall Summary and Development Goals. All four are required to submit.

Select Save as Draft at any time to finish later.

  5. Hold the review meeting, then submit

Meet the employee to go through the appraisal. To book it in WbizManager, see Hold a review meeting.

Select Submit Review. In the confirmation window, tick "I confirm that I have held a review meeting with this employee to discuss their performance assessment", then select Submit Review. (If you haven't met yet, use Schedule a review meeting in the same window, or save as a draft.) You can't change the review after submitting.

The employee gets an email, and the appraisal goes to HR for the decision.

  6. Or send it back

If the self-assessment needs work, select Reject, type the reason (required) and confirm. The appraisal goes back to the employee as Rejected, with your reason, and they can resubmit. You can do this after the self-assessment is submitted, and until HR decides.

  7. Sign off after HR approves

When HR approves the appraisal, open it again and complete the Sign-off as line manager: say whether you agree, with a comment if you don't.

The review form itself couldn't be photographed for this guide: on staging, no team member had a submitted self-assessment that the review screen accepted. The steps above are taken from the app's code.
